Extension privacy
Updated 27 October 2026 · for version 0.3.0
This policy describes how the Indie Book Atlas extension published in Chrome Web Store handles data. The website privacy policy applies separately when you open the service.
Indie Book Atlas · Chrome Web Store1. Who is responsible
The developer and operator is Ukrainian sole proprietor Olena Mitsynska. The extension displays available Amazon book-page data, compares selected books locally and opens a book in the relevant Indie Book Atlas tool. Data inquiries: support@indiebookatlas.com.
2. What is read, and when
Only after you click its icon, the extension checks the active tab URL to determine the ASIN and marketplace and reads available book fields: title, price and currency, BSR, rating and rating count, format, publisher, publication date and page count. It records the reading time. These data display book metrics and support local comparisons. There is no background crawling or general log of visited pages.
3. Why permissions are needed
activeTab grants temporary access to the selected tab after your action; scripting runs local code to read book fields; storage keeps preferences and selected books in the browser. Version 0.3.0 does not request cookies, history or persistent access to all websites.
4. Local storage and retention
chrome.storage.local keeps your chosen language, configured service address and up to five books you add: ASIN, normalized book-page URL, marketplace, title, available metrics and reading time. This list is not automatically uploaded to a server. Data remain until a book is removed, the relevant storage is cleared or the extension is uninstalled; there is no automatic expiry. Comparisons are saved snapshots, not background monitoring.
5. Sending a book to the website
Only when you select a service action does it open a new HTTPS tab at the configured service, indiebookatlas.com by default. Its URL includes the ASIN, marketplace, book title and selected action. The website receives these parameters; they may remain in browser history and website technical logs. Sign-in, saving and analysis take place on the website under its privacy policy and account permissions. The extension does not receive website passwords or login tokens.
6. What is not collected or sold
The extension does not read Amazon cookies, passwords, payment information, messages or content from other tabs. It contains no advertising trackers, third-party analytics or data sales. Book-page data are used only for the described features. Chrome Web Store installation and updates are also governed by Google’s terms and policies; website infrastructure and chat processing are covered by the website privacy policy.
7. Deleting data and contacting us
On the comparison page, remove individual books or clear the list. Uninstalling through the browser removes the extension’s local data. It does not delete your website account or previously saved reports. For access, correction or deletion of server data, contact support@indiebookatlas.com; requests are handled under the website privacy policy. Full operator details appear below.
